Ahoy! I'm Captain Sail, the guide for Book with the Captain, an independent travel advisor of Fora Travel. MSC Cruises calls itself the world's third-largest cruise line, and MSC World America is its clearest play for American cruisers. She was built for the U.S. market, she sails from Miami, and she has a brand-new terminal of her own. Below is the ship district by district, the terminal step by step, and an honest look at where she competes with Royal Caribbean's biggest ships. Every fact is sourced below.

Quick facts: MSC World America

  • Class: World Class (MSC Cruises' LNG-powered platform; the ship is an evolution of it for U.S. guests)
  • Built by: Chantiers de l'Atlantique, Saint-Nazaire, France; delivered March 27, 2025
  • Named: April 9, 2025, at the MSC Miami Cruise Terminal; godmother Drew Barrymore

  • Size: 216,638 gross tons; 333 m (about 1,093 ft) long; 47 m wide

Who MSC World America is for

MSC Cruises says World America combines "European style with American comfort." That shows in venues like a sports bar, a comedy club and a steakhouse alongside MSC's European touches.

She suits families who want a huge top-deck play area, adults who want quiet space, and suite travelers drawn to the MSC Yacht Club.

If you are new to how cruise lines group their ships, our cruise ship classes guide explains why "class" matters when you compare ships.

The seven districts, explained

MSC describes World America as the first ship in its fleet with seven onboard districts. Each one groups bars, restaurants and activities around a mood, so you can spend a day in one area without crossing the ship.

District Where it is What you'll find (per MSC) Best for
MSC Yacht Club Private enclave Suites, butler service, private lounge, restaurant, pool and sun deck Suite guests
Family Aventura Top deck The Harbor park, ropes course, Cliffhanger, Doremiland kids clubs, bumper cars, roller rink, waterslides Families
Aqua Deck Main pool deck Two main pools; calm mornings, parties at night Pool days
Zen Area High at the stern Adults-only twin pools with ocean views Quiet time
World Galleria Heart of the ship Bars, shops, Luna Park Arena, LED and kinetic light ceiling Evenings out
The Terraces Indoor and outdoor Nine restaurants and bars, shops, comedy club with dueling pianos and karaoke Adults
World Promenade Open aft, Y-shaped stern Ocean-view dining and bars, LED light shows, the 11-deck dry slide Sunsets

Signature features

Captain's tip: Cliffhanger and the slides sit up top in Family Aventura. If you want the Zen Area's calm, book a cabin far from the top-deck family zone and check the deck plan before you pick a stateroom.

Dining and bars

Before launch, MSC announced 13 restaurants and 20 bars and lounges. Here is how the dining breaks down by MSC's own description:

Type Venues MSC has named
Main dining rooms Four, serving global and familiar American dishes
Buffets Two
Casual, included Luna Park Pizza & Burger, open around the clock
Specialty Butcher's Cut steakhouse, Kaito Sushi, Kaito Teppanyaki, Hola! Tacos & Cantina, plus newer concepts
Bars Sports bar, comedy club, The Gin Project, Elixir mixology bar, Masters of the Sea pub with an onboard microbrewery, Coffee Emporium, Jean-Philippe Chocolat & Café

Menus and venues can change, so we check the current list for your sailing date.

Kids and families

MSC says the kids clubs at Doremiland cover ages from infants to 17, with age-based spaces. Family Aventura puts most family activity on one deck. Cruise Critic's editors call the family area one of the ship's strengths, listing waterslides, bumper cars, a ropes course, kids' splash areas and Cliffhanger among its draws.

For cabins, MSC lists connecting family staterooms, balconies that overlook the World Promenade, and "Infinite Ocean View" cabins. Cruise Critic's review also notes that many cabins feel tight, so families of four or more should look closely at layouts. Traveling with grandparents too? Our multi-generational family cruise tips cover how to set up cabins and days so every age gets what it came for.

MSC Yacht Club

The Yacht Club is MSC's suite enclave, and on World America it counts as its own district. MSC lists:

The service starts before you board. MSC says Yacht Club guests get a private lounge inside the Miami terminal, with drinks and snacks before embarkation. Cruise Critic describes World America's Yacht Club as large and says it offers approachable suite options.

Itineraries: where she sails

World America is based in Miami. For her first season, MSC scheduled alternating 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean sailings, and every one called at Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve in the Bahamas.

Route Ports MSC has listed
Eastern Caribbean, 7 nights Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic), San Juan (Puerto Rico), Ocean Cay
Western Caribbean, 7 nights Roatan (Honduras), Costa Maya and Cozumel (Mexico), Ocean Cay

Cruise Critic's listings show the Miami pattern continuing, with longer back-to-back combinations. We confirm the exact route for your date.

The MSC Miami Cruise Terminal

MSC opened the MSC Miami Cruise Terminal at PortMiami on April 5, 2025, and calls it the world's largest cruise terminal. Global design firm Arquitectonica designed it and Fincantieri Infrastructure built it. Miami-Dade County lists it as Terminal AA.

Terminal fact Detail
Size 492,678 sq ft over four levels (MSC)
Capacity Up to 36,000 guests a day (MSC)
Berths Designed for three ships; MSC's fact sheet lists two berths now and three from 2029
Parking Six-level garage with more than 2,400 spaces, bookable in advance
Power Shore power connection, so docked ships can switch off engines

How embarkation works, step by step

MSC says this is the first cruise terminal with a full biometric journey, using digital identity checks. Here is the flow it describes:

  1. Check in at home in the MSC for Me app or on MSC's website. Upload your documents, get your boarding pass, and opt in to biometric processing.
  2. Arrive at a covered drop-off zone for cars, buses, taxis and rideshares.
  3. Drop your bags in the garage. If you checked in online, scan your boarding pass at a garage drop-off point.
  4. Face scan and security. Scan your passport at one of 18 biometric face pods, then pass through one of 20 security lanes.
  5. Wait in natural light behind a glass facade facing Biscayne Bay.
  6. Board through biometric E-gates. There are 22. MSC moved onboarding into the terminal, so your vacation starts when you step aboard.
  7. Disembark with help from an automated baggage-sorting system.

Good to know: The biometric lane is opt-in. Bring your passport either way, and finish online check-in before you leave home, or the time-saving steps won't apply.

How MSC World America competes with Royal Caribbean

World America shares Miami with Royal Caribbean's Icon Class, so this is the comparison travelers ask about most. We use reviewers' words here, not ours.

Size. Cruise Hive's side-by-side comparison lists Icon of the Seas as larger in gross tonnage, guest capacity and passenger decks. It also calls World America "still quite large."

Vibe. Cruise Hive concludes that World America suits travelers "craving a more sophisticated, adult-friendly experience on a budget." It says Icon "likely has more to offer" for "constant thrills and family-friendly fun." Cruise Critic's editors rate World America 4.0 out of 5 and Icon of the Seas 4.5 out of 5.

Value. Cruise Critic's bottom line calls World America "one of the best values in cruising." Cruise Hive's comparison found that Icon "tends to come with the higher price tag." Fares change daily, so we compare real quotes for your dates.

Trade-offs. Cruise Critic's con for World America: the ship "can feel crowded and loud."
