Galveston hotels for the night before (or after) your cruise

Book with the Captain is an independent travel advisor with Fora Travel.

Many Texas cruisers drive in, but a night on the island the day before takes traffic and weather off the table. The Strand and Pier 21 put you close to the cruise terminals. The Seawall is where you go for Gulf views and a beach day after you're back. Here are the places I look at first.

FAQ

Should I stay on the Strand or the Seawall?

The Strand and Pier 21 area is downtown, close to the port, with historic streets, shops and restaurants. The Seawall is beachfront, with Gulf views and resort pools, but it's a drive to the terminals. I usually suggest downtown before the cruise and the Seawall after, when you have time to relax.

Do Galveston hotels offer cruise parking?

Some hotels offer cruise packages with parking or transportation, but packages change, so I confirm what's current with the hotel. Royal Caribbean also says parking can be paid at the port or prepaid on the Port of Galveston website. I'll compare the options for your dates and tell you what each includes, without guessing at prices.
