Ahoy! I'm Captain Sail, the guide for Book with the Captain, an independent travel advisor of Fora Travel. Royal Caribbean's Icon Class ships are built to keep you busy, and on a sea day the hard part is choosing. This guide sorts what to do on board by neighborhood and by interest, using only what Royal Caribbean lists for each ship. It also flags where the ships differ, so check your own ship's page before you plan.
Traveling with kids? Our Icon Class family guide covers family cabins, kids clubs and school-break timing, so we won't repeat that here.
Quick facts: Icon Class on board
- The ships: Royal Caribbean's Icon Class guide names Icon, Star and Legend of the Seas, each with eight neighborhoods and seven pools. Hero of the Seas arrives in Miami in August 2027.
- Biggest draws: Royal Caribbean lists Category 6, the largest waterpark at sea; Royal Bay, the largest pool at sea; and Crown's Edge, a skywalk 154 feet above the ocean.
- Included in the fare: Royal Caribbean says Icon's fare covers seven pools, Category 6, FlowRider, rock climbing, ice skating, mini golf, laser tag and youth programs.
- Optional upgrades: On the same page, Royal Caribbean says specialty dining, spa treatments and select experiences are optional upgrades.
The eight neighborhoods at a glance
Royal Caribbean's Legend of the Seas page lists the eight neighborhoods, and its Icon Class guide says all three ships share eight neighborhood concepts.
| Neighborhood | What Royal Caribbean says it's for |
|---|---|
| Thrill Island | Home to Category 6, the largest waterpark at sea |
| Chill Island | A resort-style pool deck with multiple pools |
| Surfside | A stay-all-day neighborhood designed for families |
| AquaDome | Immersive entertainment and panoramic ocean views |
| Central Park | An open-air garden with dining, live music and over 30,000 plants |
| Royal Promenade | Dining, shopping and nightlife at the heart of the ship |
| The Hideaway | Adults-only retreat with an infinity-style pool |
| Suite Neighborhood | Exclusive spaces for suite guests |
Thrills: Thrill Island and beyond
Thrill Island is the busiest neighborhood for adrenaline. Royal Caribbean says Category 6 has six slides, and lists the FlowRider surf simulator, rock climbing, Adrenaline Peak, Lost Dunes mini golf and the Sports Court on Icon.
For heights, Crown's Edge is the one Royal Caribbean calls a one-of-a-kind skywalk, 154 feet above the ocean. Indoors, Icon's included list adds laser tag and ice skating.
Captain's tip: Pick one big thrill per sea day and plan the rest of the day around it. It keeps the day from turning into a dash between decks.
Water and pools: Chill Island, Royal Bay and Cloud 17
All three ships have seven pools. Icon's page lists 9 whirlpools; the Star and Legend pages list 10. Royal Caribbean's class guide highlights:
- Royal Bay: the largest pool at sea.
- Swim & Tonic: the largest swim-up bar at sea.
- Cloud 17: a pool area near The Lime and Coconut bar and a whirlpool.
- Two adults-only pools, including the one at The Hideaway.
Families can also head to Surfside's Splashaway Bay aquapark, which Royal Caribbean lists on Icon and Legend. The family guide covers Surfside in detail.
Shows and nightlife: what varies most by ship
Entertainment is where the ships differ most. Here's what each ship page lists:
| Icon of the Seas | Star of the Seas | Legend of the Seas | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Broadway-style show | The Wizard of Oz | Back to the Future: The Musical | Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory |
| AquaTheater | AquaTheater show | 2 AquaTheater shows | AquaTheater show |
| Ice show | Absolute Zero ice show | 1 ice skating show | Ice skating show |
| Live music | 10 spots | 7 places | 8 places |
| Also listed | Comedy, karaoke, Dueling Pianos, theme parties, game shows | Adult comedy shows, 10+ ways to party, trivia and game shows | America's Got Talent LIVE, 10+ ways to party, trivia and game shows |
The class guide also names Lou's, Dueling Pianos, Rye & Bean, the 1400 Lobby Bar and Bubbles as evening spots. Look up The Pearl on the Royal Promenade too: Royal Caribbean describes it as a massive, iridescent sphere.
Good to know: Show lineups can change. Check your ship's page on royalcaribbean.com close to sailing, and plan your evenings around the shows you most want to see.

Kids and teens
Royal Caribbean lists youth programs on Icon and kids and teen programs on Star and Legend. On Icon, Surfside has its own aquapark, arcade and carousel. Our Icon Class family guide covers ages, clubs and family cabins.
Adults-only and relaxing

- Central Park's garden, with its live music.
- An AquaDome show with ocean views.
- Cloud 17 or Chill Island between swims.
Spa treatments are an optional upgrade, according to Royal Caribbean's Icon page.
