What can I bring back from a cruise through U.S. customs?

When you return from a cruise, everything you acquired abroad must be declared to CBP. Personal exemption amounts depend on where you traveled, and some foods, plants and animal products are restricted. Check current CBP rules before you travel.

What is the personal exemption?

CBP sets duty-free exemption amounts that vary by the countries visited; see CBP's "Know Before You Go."

Can I bring alcohol back?

Limited amounts are allowed duty-free per CBP; state laws and cruise line rules also apply.

Can I bring fruit or food off the ship?

Fresh fruit and many food items are restricted; declare all food. See USDA/CBP guidance.

What about souvenirs made from animals?

Items from protected species can be seized. Check U.S. Fish & Wildlife guidance.

Do I fill out a customs form?

Procedures vary by port; follow your cruise line and CBP instructions at debarkation.

What if I am unsure?

Declare it. Failing to declare can lead to penalties.
