Ahoy! I'm Captain Sail, the guide for Book with the Captain, an independent travel advisor of Fora Travel. Star of the Seas is the Icon Class ship that Royal Caribbean bases at Port Canaveral in 2027, with Orlando's theme parks and Kennedy Space Center a drive away. This is a feature guide built from Royal Caribbean's own pages, not firsthand: no star ratings, no "we sailed" stories. Just what's on board, where it goes in 2027, and who it suits.

Star of the Seas at a glance
Royal Caribbean's fleet page calls Port Canaveral "Star of the Seas' 2027 home base for 7-night Caribbean cruises," so it's a natural pick for Florida and drive-in families.
| Feature | What Royal Caribbean's Star page lists |
|---|---|
| Pools | Seven pools and ten whirlpools |
| Waterpark | Category 6, which Royal Caribbean calls the largest waterpark at sea |

Good to know: "Complimentary" here means included in the cruise fare, per Royal Caribbean. Some venues and activities on board cost extra, so ask me which ones matter for your family.
What's on board
Royal Caribbean designs its Icon Class ships around neighborhoods. Here's what its Star page and Icon Class page describe.
Surfside
Royal Caribbean's Icon Class page calls Surfside "a new stay-all-day neighborhood just for families," with an aquapark for kids. It's the area parents of little ones will want to know.
Thrills
Category 6 is the waterpark, which Royal Caribbean says features record-breaking waterslides. The Star page also lists a FlowRider surf simulator, a rock-climbing wall, mini golf and laser tag.
AquaDome Market and shows
The Star page lists five food stands at the AquaDome Market, plus two AquaTheater shows and seven places to see live music.

Pools and the waterpark
Water is the big draw. Royal Caribbean lists seven pools and ten whirlpools on Star, and says Category 6 is the largest waterpark at sea.
Royal Caribbean also counts 20 waterslides "onboard and on shore," which combines the ship's slides with those at Perfect Day at CocoCay. Its Star page says the island is on every sailing.

Captain's tip: For families with kids of different ages, an Icon Class layout helps: little ones in Surfside, older kids at Category 6, and everyone meeting up at the pool.
Dining and shows
Royal Caribbean lists 17 complimentary spots to dine on Star. Included options named on the ship page:
- A three-course menu nightly in the dining room
- Two all-you-can-eat buffets
- Five food stands at the AquaDome Market
- Five quick-stop food spots
- Pearl Café, open 24/7
For shows, the Star page names Back to the Future: The Musical, two AquaTheater shows, an ice skating show and adult comedy shows.

Where Star sails from Port Canaveral in 2027
Royal Caribbean says Port Canaveral is Star of the Seas' 2027 home base for 7-night Caribbean cruises. The ship page also shows a Southern Caribbean itinerary, so ask us which trip types are open for your dates.
Royal Caribbean's ship page also points out Kennedy Space Center and Orlando's theme parks, "just a short drive away," so a pre- or post-cruise stay is easy to add. For the full 2027 lineup across ports, see my 2027 ship moves guide.

- First-time cruisers who want a full week and a private island day
It's less of a fit if you want a short 3- or 4-night trip, since Royal Caribbean describes Star's 2027 Port Canaveral trips as 7-night cruises. See my ship classes guide for other ships and lengths.
