Hurricane season dates

The Atlantic hurricane season, which covers the Caribbean Sea, officially runs from June 1 to November 30. NOAA's National Hurricane Center puts the peak on September 10, with most activity between mid-August and mid-October.

Is a cruise in hurricane season risky?

NOAA's hurricane research division notes that the chance of a direct hurricane hit during a short trip is small, even in September. It also advises checking your cruise line's and hotel's storm and refund policies before you go. Ships can change their routes to avoid storms, so ports may be swapped.

Lower-risk months inside the season

Celebrity Cruises points to June, July and late November as quieter windows inside hurricane season.
